In 1958 he resumed teaching at the Folkwang School of Design, the City of Essen's art school, specializing in nude and figurative drawing . He carried out this task until shortly before his death, when he had to give it up for health reasons.
As a painter, Pieper was interested in the subjects of gypsies, mother and child, portraits, nudes and landscapes of the North Sea. He also painted his memories of his travels to Belgium, France, the Netherlands and Austria. Paris and Tyrol in particular are reflected in his paintings.
