Joachim Albrecht (General)

Joachim Albrecht (born February 28, 1933 in Holzweißig ; † January 27, 2015 ) was a German officer. He was major general and head of an administration in the Ministry for National Defense (MfNV) of the GDR .

Life

The son of a worker learned the trade of a locksmith after attending school from 1947 to 1950 and then worked in the profession.

In 1952 he became a member of the German People's Police in the Leipzig VP readiness and from 1952 to 1954 he attended the VP School in Priemerwald in Großenhain. 1954/55 he was platoon leader in the mechanized readiness of the barracked people's police in Oranienburg, 1955/56 company commander . In 1955 he became a member of the SED and in 1956 a member of the National People's Army (NVA). From 1956 to 1960 he studied at a military academy in the USSR . After his return he was first employed as chief of staff of Panzer Regiment 1 and then as a training officer in the operational administration of the MfNV. From 1961 to 1963 he was senior officer for field equipment and from 1963 to 1965 head of the troop leadership working group in the operational administration of the MfNV. From 1965 to 1969 he was department head mechanization and automation of troop command of the MfNV and from 1969 to 1988 deputy of the chief of the main staff of the NVA for mechanization and automation of troop command. From 1988 to 1990 he was then head of the administration for automation of troop command at the MfNV and the Ministry for Disarmament and Defense . As one of the last officers of the NVA, he was appointed major general by Erich Honecker on October 7, 1989 and discharged from military service on September 30, 1990.

Albrecht lived as a veteran in Strausberg. He died on January 27, 2015 at the age of 81.
