Joachim Bäldi (* before 1527 ; † 2. October 1571 in Glarus ; heimatberechtigt ) was a Glarner captain Landschreiber , bailiff , bailiff , Diet ambassador and promoter of the evangelical movement in Locarno and Glarus.

Live and act

Nothing has been handed down about Bäldi's birth, childhood and adolescence, the first evidence only emerged from 1527. He was a captain in the French service, then landlord and from 1539 Glarner Landschreiber. From 1542 to 1544 he was governor in Locarno, where he promoted the evangelical movement there under Giovanni Beccaria .

From 1548 to 1553 Bäldi was Landammann von Glarus and also delegate from the Diet from 1546 to 1555. At his request, the Kärpf area was declared a ban zone in 1548 and is now one of the oldest game reserves . During the denominational tensions ( Glarnerhandel 1555–1564) he campaigned for the five reformed towns as an opponent of the Catholic Aegidius Tschudis . With Paulus Schuler he was one of the leading Reformed personalities in the country.

Private

Bäldi was first married to Elsbeth Göldi, the daughter of the Zurich councilor Georg Göldi. He concluded a second marriage with Rosa Wellenberg, the daughter of the Mayor of Constance, Hans Wellenberg.
