Joachim Barckhausen
Joachim Barckhausen (born April 8, 1906 in Egeln , † 1978 in West Berlin ) was a German writer, translator and screenwriter.
Life
Barckhausen became known as an author of historical non-fiction books and novels from the late 1938s. His biographical novel Ohm Krüger about the Boer leader Paul Kruger , published in 1941, has been translated several times. After 1945 it was included in the list of literature to be sorted out by the German Administration for National Education . According to a list published by the Department of Popular Education of the Berlin Magistrate , Barckhausen's works were classified as "völkisch" and should all be removed from the library holdings.
Despite this background, Barckhausen was able to work successfully as a scriptwriter for DEFA for several years . In 1975 he wrote an epilogue to the autobiography of the “red count” Alexander Stenbock-Fermor , published by the East Berlin publishing house of the nation , after the latter had died before completion.
Barckhausen was married to the writer Elfriede Brüning from 1937 to 1948 . Their daughter is the writer Christiane Barckhausen .
