Joachim Bleicker (born April 23, 1958 in Wuppertal ) is a German diplomat . He has been the ambassador to Slovakia since 2016 .

Life

After graduating from high school in Kassel in 1977 and completing basic military service in 1978, Joachim Bleicker began studying law in Göttingen and Lausanne . From 1985 to 1987 he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for International Law at the Georg-August University in Göttingen .

career

Bleicker joined the Foreign Service in 1987. His first foreign assignments took him in 1987/88 as an exchange officer to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London and from 1990 to 1993 as a minority officer at the German embassy in Warsaw . Between 1989 and 1990 he was a consultant for shipping and tourism at the Foreign Office in Bonn .

In 1993 he returned to the Foreign Office as a consultant for Poland and the Czech Republic and in 1996 went to the United States Department of Foreign Affairs in Washington, DC as an exchange officer. In 1997 he moved to the German embassy there as Counselor for Europe, Asia and Oceania.

From 2000 to 2003 Bleicker was Deputy Head of Department East Central and Northern Europe in the Foreign Office in Berlin, then until 2005 Permanent Representative at the German Embassy in Belgrade and then Head of the Western Balkans Department in the Foreign Office in Berlin. In 2008 he was appointed Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Gdansk and in 2011 moved to the German embassy in Warsaw as envoy and permanent representative.

2014 he returned to the Foreign Office in Berlin, where he was commissioner for relations with the EU Member States as well as cross-border and regional cooperation before 2016, succeeding Thomas Götz for ambassador in Slovakia , based in Bratislava has been appointed.
