Joachim Gabor

Joachim Gabor (born February 6, 1929 in Groß Strehlitz , Upper Silesia , † April 6, 2013 in Rosenheim ) was a German entrepreneur and recipient of the Cross of Merit .

Career

His father Pius Gabor was a shoemaker and had since 1919 with his wife Lucy Gabor in Great Strehlitz (Polish since 1945: Strzelce ) successfully a shoe store with custom-made built. Both lost their lives in a bombing raid during World War II and their parents' house was destroyed. After fleeing Upper Silesia, he started his own shoe production in the Soviet zone of occupation in Saalfeld in 1947 . Two years later he founded the B. & J company with his brother Bernhard Gabor († 1966) in Barmstedt near Hamburg . Gabor women's shoe factories . From small beginnings, they built the company into one of Europe's leading shoe manufacturers. In 1965 the company headquarters was relocated to Rosenheim .

In February 2005 he retired from the chairmanship of the executive board and moved to the supervisory board. He later became its honorary chairman.
