Joachim Karl of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel
Joachim Karl (born April 29, 1573 ; † October 9, 1615 in Calvörde ) was the third son of Julius von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel and Hedwig von Brandenburg . From 1592 he was Provost of Strasbourg Cathedral and Mayor of that city.
He refused to marry the Swedish princess Margarethe Elisabeth because he still felt too young to commit. In 1608 the Duke took up residence at Calvörde Castle and held court here for 7 years. He was named as the benefactor of the whole Calvörde office . He donated an altar, the pulpit, the font and the organ to the newly built St. George's Church in Calvörde . He died on October 9, 1615 and was buried in the Mariental monastery.
