Joachim Kunze (politician)

Joachim Kunze (born September 11, 1930 in Stollberg ; † November 4, 2013 ) was a German politician ( SED ) and Lord Mayor of Suhl .

The son of a carpenter attended elementary and secondary school in his home town of Stollberg in the Ore Mountains, where he graduated from high school in 1950. In 1950 he began studying at the University of Leipzig , which he graduated from 1951 to 1954 after moving to the Berlin School of Economics . completed. In 1954 he joined the SED. From 1954 to 1959 he worked as a consultant and department head at the Suhl District Council. This was followed by a directorate at MTS Marisfeld , a department head for agriculture, registration and forestry at the Suhl District Council. From 1963 to 1966 he was secretary for agriculture within the SED district leadership in Bad Salzungen , then until 1973 1st deputy chairman of the council for agricultural production in Suhl. Political offices followed from 1973 to 1978 as chairman of the Bad Salzungen district council . As the successor to Herbert Walther , he was Lord Mayor of the district town of Suhl from 1978 until his resignation as a result of the demonstrations in the context of the fall of the GDR on November 15, 1989 .

In 1974 he was honored with the Labor Banner , and he was also the bearer of the Patriotic Order of Merit .
