Joachim Weiskopf (born  November 5, 1927 in Leipzig ) is a German doctor and dentist as well as a former high sports official of the German Democratic Republic (GDR). From June to November 1990 he was the last President of the National Olympic Committee of the GDR and then Vice-President of the National Olympic Committee for Germany , of which he has been an honorary member since 1997.

Life

Joachim Weiskopf was born in Leipzig in 1927 and studied dentistry from 1946 to 1950 and then medicine . In 1950 he received his doctorate in dentistry from the University of Leipzig and in 1957 in the medical field, and in 1961 he also received his habilitation in Leipzig . From 1964 he was director of the Polyclinic for Prosthetic and Orthopedic Stomatology and at times dean of the Medical Faculty of Leipzig University. From 1964 to 1978 he was a member of the presidium of the Society for Stomatology of the GDR. In 1981 he received the state honorary title of Honored Physician of the People . In 1994 he was awarded the Hans van Thiel Medal of the German Society for Prosthetic Dentistry and Biomaterials eV (DGPro; formerly German Society for Dental Prosthetics and Materials Science, DGZPW) for his services in the field of dental prosthetics and materials science.

In the course of his academic career, he published more than 100 scientific publications , in particular on the treatment of fractures of the jaw and surgical prosthetics . After the political change in the GDR and the German reunification , he was a founding member of the State Dental Association of Saxony and a member of the first board of its chamber assembly.

In terms of sport, he was active as a hockey player and completed a total of 19 international matches between 1950 and 1958. After the end of his active career, he worked as a team doctor for the national hockey team and from 1965 as Vice President of the German Hockey Sports Association of the GDR, from 1966 to 1971 he was a member of the board of the World Hockey Association ( Fédération Internationale de Hockey , FIH). In 1970 Joachim Weiskopf became President of the German Canoe Sports Association of the GDR (DKSV) and a member of the board of the International Canoe Association . By virtue of his office as DKSV President, he was also a member of the National Olympic Committee of the GDR (NOK) from 1970 . On June 15, 1990 he was elected President of the NOC of the GDR and held this office until it was merged with the National Olympic Committee for Germany on November 17, 1990. In the all-German NOK he took on the role of Vice President, in 1997 he was made an honorary member.
