Joachim (Georg) von der Marwitz (* December 7, 1603 at Stenuwitz Castle (today Stanowice ), † May 11, 1662 in Driesen (?)) Was a court official and soldier.

Life

Marwitz is the son of Hans von der Marwitz and his wife Anna von der Goltz .

In the winter semester of 1611/1612, Marwitz enrolled at the University of Frankfurt / Oder . A few years later he got a job in Halle at the court of Margrave Christian Wilhelm von Brandenburg .

A short time later, however, Marwitz was enlisted in the Brandenburg army and in 1626 was honored as a cornet with Königslutter for his bravery .

In 1631 he was accepted into a regiment under the command of Konrad von Burgsdorff as a captain lieutenant. Further stations in his career were Colonel Sergeant (1633) and Adjutant General in the cavalry (1637). In 1644 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel in Georg Ehrenreich von Burgsdorff's bodyguard regiment .

Around 1648 Marwitz reached the climax of his military career with the appointment as commandant of Driesen . As such, he was also appointed governor of Brandenburg.

On March 27, 1648, Marwitz was accepted into the Fruitful Society by Prince Ludwig I of Anhalt-Köthen, along with Joachim Sigismund von Loeben , Otto von Grote and Georg de Hertoghe . The prince gave Marwitz the company name of the demonstrator and the motto of the chaste help . The dragon's root ( Dracunculus vulgaris Schott. ) Was assigned to him as an emblem . Marwitz's entry can be found in the Koethener society book under the number 501. The rhyme law is also noted here, with which Marwitz thanks for the admission:

At the age of 59, Joachim von der Marwitz probably died on May 11, 1662 in Driesen.

In 1628 Joachim von der Marwitz married Maria von Redern . Her son was Major General Friedrich Wilhelm von der Marwitz .
