history

The double villa was created together with the buildings at Joachimstrasse 6–8 and 14–16 for the client Carl Ebbinghaus based on a design by the architects Kayser & von Großheim . From 1898 to 1900, Friedrich Wilhelm Prince of Prussia lived in the house at Joachimstrasse 10 while studying at the University of Bonn .

In 1948/49 the western half-villa (Joachimstrasse 12) was the seat of the liaison staff of the United States and the eastern one (Joachimstrasse 10; originally the residence of the industrialist Alfred Soennecken ) that of the French Republic at the Parliamentary Council . After the entry into force of the Occupation Statute of the liaison offices were part of the French and American high commissions - whose headquarters is in contrast to Joachimstraße not near the parliament and government district were - and served as the seat of the so-called liaison officers ( liaison officers ) that an informal contact with German government officials , Members of the Bundestag and representatives of the press. While the American liaison office moved to Zitelmannstrasse 8 by 1953, the French one remained in the twin villa.

From 1953 to the mid-1960s at the latest, Joachimstrasse 10 housed the Bonn Reports office of the Federal Ministry for All-German Issues . In 1967 the building was extensively rebuilt, in the course of which the formerly independent houses Joachimstrasse 8 and 10 were merged by removing the separating fire wall and equipped with a shared staircase and elevator, all floor plans were changed and the rear structures were demolished and rebuilt. Later (status: 1977-79) the entire double villa was home to the Catholic Military Bishop's Office, a higher federal authority for military pastoral care subordinate to the Federal Ministry of Defense . In 1985 a chapel in the building was expanded. The double villa was entered in the monuments list of the city of Bonn on June 10, 1996.

Today, the building is called "Heinz-Dörks-Haus" and is the seat of a non-profit organization promoting the integration of disabled people, which has a training facility there. It is known as the “House of Many Generations”, serves as a general event location and, since 2007, has also been used as a meeting place for senior citizens.
