Joan May Blackman (born May 18, 1938 in San Francisco , California ) is an American actress .

Life

Blackman began her acting career in 1957 with first guest appearances on television series. She made her feature film debut in 1959 in the western The Executioner Waits at the side of Fred MacMurray and Robert Vaughn . In the same year she married the actor Joby Baker , whom she met in drama school. Also in 1959 she starred alongside Dean Martin and Shirley MacLaine in the three Academy Award-nominated drama Many Are Called . In 1960 she played the lead female role in the Jerry Lewis comedy Visiting a Small Planet , after which she was seen twice alongside Elvis Presley with Blue Hawaii and Kid Galahad - Hard Fists, Hot Love . After Boris Sagal's crime film character assassination in 1963, she only worked in television productions for several years, between 1965 and 1966 she played the role of Marion Fowler in the soap opera Peyton Place . After divorcing Joby Baker in 1961, she married actor Rockne Tarkington in 1968 . This marriage lasted until 1970.

In the 1970s she was seen in several Canadian film productions, including in David Cronenberg's film debut Parasite Killer . She had another appearance in 1990 in the children's series The Castle of Adventure, based on a novel by Enid Blyton .
