Joan Bridge

Joan Bridge (born March 13, 1912 in Derbyshire , England , † December 8, 2009 in Totteridge , London Borough of Barnet , London ) was a British costume designer who once won the Oscar for best costume design in a color film and another British Academy film Award for the best costumes .

Life

Joan Bridge began her career as a costume designer in the film industry in 1938 with the short film Making Fashion and was involved in the production of over 100 films until 1980, mostly as a color consultant for film recordings using the Technicolor method .

In 1966 she and Elizabeth Haffenden were nominated for the first time for the British Academy Film Award (BAFTA Film Award) for best costumes for The Amorous Adventures of Moll Flanders (1965) by Terence Young with Kim Novak , Richard Johnson and Claire Ufland .

In 1967 she received an Oscar for best costume design in a color film with Elizabeth Haffenden for A Man for Every Season (1966) by Fred Zinnemann with Paul Scofield , Wendy Hiller and Leo McKern . At the same time, she and Elizabeth Haffenden also won the BAFTA Film Award 1968 for the best costumes in this film.

In addition, both received in 1968 a further nomination for the BAFTA Film Award for the best costumes in the musical film Half a Sixpence (1967) by George Sidney with Tommy Steele , Julia Foster , and Cyril Ritchard in the leading roles.

Most recently she was nominated again with Anthea Sylbert and Annalisa Nasalli-Rocca in 1979 for the BAFTA Film Award for best costumes, namely for Julia (1977) by Fred Zinnemann with Jane Fonda , Vanessa Redgrave and Jason Robards .
