Joan O'Brien
Joan Marie O'Brien (born February 14, 1936 in Cambridge , Massachusetts ) is an American actress and singer .
life and career
Joan O'Brien was born in the state of Massachusetts and moved to California with her parents as a child. At the age of eight she took her first dance lessons and she was also active as a singer. She was discovered by the country musician Cliffie Stone , who hired her as a singer for his television show Hometown Jamboree before graduating from school . In the late 1950s she made the leap into acting. She soon got a bigger role in the comedy Company Petticoat (1959) with Cary Grant and Tony Curtis . In addition to John Wayne , she was seen in the western films Alamo (1960) and The Comancheros (1961). She played a nurse particularly often in her films. In 1963 she was in the musical film Ob blond, ob braun ... the partner of Elvis Presley ; they also had a brief relationship in private.
Parallel to her film career, she continued to be a singer and also took on guest roles in television series such as Thousand Miles of Dust , Department M and Perry Mason . In the mid-1960s, O'Brien ended her acting career and worked for some time as a singer, for example with Harry James and his orchestra. She then devoted herself to raising her two children and later also worked in a senior position for the Hilton Hotels . Joan O'Brien was known for her stormy personal life, which may also be the reason why, despite promising approaches, she never became a star. She was married five times, most recently to Lt. Col. Malcolm Bernard Campbell until his death in 2004. Her first husband was the singer Billy Strange .
