Joanne Michèle Sylvie Harris MBE (born July 3, 1964 in Barnsley , Yorkshire ) is a British writer . She became famous for her novel Chocolat , which was filmed in 2000 with Juliette Binoche and Johnny Depp with the title Chocolat - One small bite is enough .

Life

Joanne Harris was born in Barnsley to a French mother and an English father. She attended Wakefield Girls High School in Wakefield and Barnsley Sixth Form College . She then studied modern and medieval languages ​​at St. Catharine's College , Cambridge . After graduating, she worked for twelve years as a French teacher at a high school in Leeds . She then directed a course on French literature at the University of Sheffield .

In June 2013 she was awarded the MBE by Queen Elizabeth II for her literary achievements .
