Joaquim Pere Marès i Gribbin

Joaquim Pere Marès i Gribbin (born January 2, 1888 in Barcelona ; † September 9, 1964 ibid) was a Spanish cellist and music teacher from the Catalan cultural area.

life and work

Marès studied at the Municipal Conservatory of Barcelona and completed in-depth studies in Brussels (1908–1910) with Jacques Gaillard and in Berlin (1910–1912) with Jean Berardy . Marès achieved great success and recognition, especially in Germany. He was a member of the Kurhaus Orchestra in Westerland , with which he made his debut as an orchestral soloist in 1912. After his return to Barcelona he founded the Trio de Barcelona with the violinist Marià Perelló and the pianist Ricard Vives . In 1913 he and his ensemble colleagues performed in Berlin with great success. In Paris, Madrid and Barcelona he was a cellist in the world premiere of Enric Granados ' Elisenda Suite .

Marès was professor for violoncello at the Acadèmia Marshall in Barcelona.
