Career

Born in what is now Fulton County , Job Mann attended his homeland public schools and Bedford Academy . In 1816 he became an administrative clerk with the County Council in Bedford County. Between 1818 and 1835 he held other administrative offices in this district. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .

In the 1834 congressional election , Mann was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 21st  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded George Burd on March 4, 1835 . Since he was not confirmed in 1836, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1837 . This was shaped by the discussions about the policy of President Andrew Jackson .

After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1839, he began to work in Bedford in this profession. Between 1842 and 1848, Mann was State Treasurer of Pennsylvania. He was also a member of the House of Representatives of that state. In the elections of 1846 man in the 19th District of Pennsylvania was re-elected to Congress, where he replaced Henry Donnel Foster on March 4, 1847 . After being re-elected, he was able to spend two legislative terms in the House of Representatives until March 3, 1851. This time was initially determined by the events of the Mexican-American War . Thereafter, the discussion of the question of slavery dominated political events inside and outside of Congress. It was then that the compromise of 1850 drawn up by Henry Clay was passed.

In 1850, Job Mann renounced another candidacy. After his time in the US House of Representatives, he practiced as a lawyer again. He died on October 8, 1873 in Bedford, where he was also buried.
