Giuseppe Gaetano "Joe" Bini (* 1963 in San Mateo , California ) is an American film editor and screenwriter .

Life

Bini has been working as a film editor since the mid-1990s. He became known mainly through his long-term collaboration with director Werner Herzog , with whom he made numerous feature films and documentaries. At the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival , Bini announced that the documentary Into the Inferno would be their last collaboration. Bini announced that it intends to focus more on its own projects in the future.

In 2006 , Bini was a juror in the Documentary Category at the Sundance Film Festival . At the 2008 Sundance Film Festival , he received the Documentary Editing Award for editing the documentary Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired . For his screenplay for the same film, he was awarded a Primetime Emmy in the category Outstanding Writing for Nonfiction Programming in 2009.

Bini is married to the film editor Maya Hawke , who supported him as co-editor on several projects.
