My dearest enemy is a documentary by Werner Herzog , which was released in 1999, about the difficult director-actor relationship between him and Klaus Kinski .

action

Scenes from all five films they have made are shown: Aguirre, the Wrath of God , Nosferatu - Phantom of the Night , Woyzeck , Fitzcarraldo (also unpublished recordings with Jason Robards and Mick Jagger ) and Cobra Verde .

Herzog also shows several outbursts of anger from Kinski that were recorded while filming, as well as excerpts from Kinski's Jesus Christ Redeemer tour in the early 1970s. Among others, Claudia Cardinale and Eva Mattes have their say as former shooting partners of Kinski.

Reviews

“Werner Herzog's documentary about Klaus Kinski, the late leading actor in several of his films. Herzog reports on Kinski's outbursts of anger and catastrophic filming, shows out-takes as evidence and traveled to the locations in South America at the time. At the same time, the filmmaker clearly stages himself, so that this was not only a film about an extraordinary actor and person, but also about a friendship between men overshadowed by power struggles and vanities. As a document of the deceased German auteur film of great value. "
