The Flying Doctors of East Africa is a documentary - short film by Werner Herzog in 1969. The film deals with the "Flying Doctors Service" of the African Medical and Research Foundation , the remote since the 1960s areas in Kenya , Tanzania and Uganda by air medical provided. The conventionally staged documentary was made during the shooting of Fata Morgana and also dwarfs started small .
The film predominantly has the character of a factual report and avoids the surrealism and stylizations that are otherwise formative for Herzog's films. Herzog said: "I don't even call it a film, it's more of a report." Herzog was particularly interested in the problems of communication, which often make treatment difficult.
The first performance in Germany was on May 3, 1970 on ZDF.
