On Death Row (German name: In death row ) is a television miniseries , which directed by Werner Herzog was born. The four-episode series in two seasons deals with murderers sentenced to death in the United States . The series was a follow-up to Herzog's work on his documentary Death in Texas .
Each of the four episodes illuminates a specific murder case and the people sentenced to death for it. Most of the episodes consist of conversations between Herzog and the respective death row inmates. In addition, each episode features shorter, Herzog-led interviews with other people involved with the convicted killers, including prosecutors, defense lawyers, and family members of the death row inmates. Herzog himself is not in the picture during all of these interviews.
The series was first broadcast on March 22, 2012 on the British TV station Channel 4 . A month earlier, the series was shown during the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival . The German first broadcast took place on January 20, 2013 on the TV channel Planet .

The four murder cases portrayed are:
- James Barnes - convicted of two murders (He confesses to other homicides in conversation with Werner Herzog.) - (Planet January 20, 2013)
- George Rivas and Joseph Garcia - convicted of being part of the Texas Seven of a post-prison robbery that killed a police officer. Both had already been sentenced to decades of imprisonment before the outbreak for various violent crimes. George Rivas was executed by lethal injection on February 29, 2012 - before the episode aired. - (Planet February 3, 2013). Joseph Garcia was also executed by lethal injection on December 4, 2018.
- Hank Skinner - convicted of the murder of his partner and her two sons. - (Planet February 10, 2013)

The four murder cases portrayed are:
- Darlie Routier - In 1996 she stabbed her two sons Devon, 6 and Damon, 5 with a kitchen knife. She says a burglar murdered her children. To this day she sits on a Texas death row. - (Planet October 22, 2014)
