Joe Brooks (* 14. December 1923 in Los Angeles as John Joseph Brooks, Jr. , † 5. December 2007 ) was an American actor .

Life

After graduating from high school , Brooks began working as an actor. He had his first small role in 1944 in the war film Alarm in the Pacific on the side of John Wayne . The draft for military service, which he served in the South Pacific, interrupted the budding career that same year. After the end of the war he returned to acting.

Although Brooks appeared in numerous films and TV series, he was mostly limited to smaller roles. He only gained greater fame in the mid-1960s with the military satire F Troop . In the sitcom , he played the extremely short-sighted trooper Vanderbilt in 48 episodes. His physical impairment, which made him practically useless for the task as a scout, was not initially intended; Brooks himself had only come up with this during rehearsal for the series' pilot.

Brooks was married to Betty Jean Davis from 1948 until her death in 1991, and the couple had four children. He is buried in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park .
