Joseph Thomas Corrigan (born November 18, 1948 in Manchester ) is a former English football goalkeeper and football goalkeeping coach.

Player career

Corrigan joined Manchester City in 1966 as a youth player . In 1967 he made his first-team debut in the league cup game against Blackpool FC . In the 1969/1970 season Corrigan became a regular player for the Blues. Previously, as a substitute goalkeeper, he was English champion in 1968 and English cup winner in 1969. As a regular goalkeeper, Corrigan won the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1970 and the English League Cup in the same year. In 1976 he was able to repeat winning the league cup with the Blues. On May 28, 1976 he made his debut in the English national football team in the game against Italy . He took part in the 1980 European Football Championship in Italy (from the group phase) and at the 1982 World Cup in Spain (from the second group phase). Corrigan played a total of nine games for England. All told, he played 592 competitive games for Manchester City and was voted Player of the Year three times by fans of the Blues.

In 1983 Corrigan moved to the United States to join the Seattle Sounders for £ 30,000. He stayed in Seattle for only a few months before returning to Brighton & Hove Albion in England . He finished his career at Norwich City and Stoke City .

After retirement

Corrigan became goalkeeping coach at Liverpool FC in 1994 . He held this position until the Spaniard Rafael Benítez was signed in 2004. From September to October 2004 he coached the Chester City goalkeepers . From October 2004 to February 2005 he was under contract as a goalkeeping coach with Stockport County . Since February 2005 he has worked for the goalkeeping coaching division of West Bromwich Albion .
