Joe Halderman

Robert Joel Halderman (* 1957 ) is an American director , screenwriter and television producer .

Life

Halderman began his career as a television journalist in the early 1980s. He initially worked as a producer on the CBS Morning Show , presented by Diane Sawyer and Bill Kurtis . From 1991 he worked as a CBS foreign correspondent in Afghanistan , Kuwait , Bosnia and Iraq , among others , and was stationed in London for twelve years . His reports have received a total of seven Emmy Awards and the Dupont Award from Columbia University .

In 1990 he married Patty Montet, and the marriage had two children. The marriage was divorced in 2004. The following year, he began a relationship with a collaborator on the Late Show with David Letterman .

In 2006, he directed, screenwriter and producer the documentary Three Days in September about the Beslan hostage-taking , for which he was nominated for an Emmy Award.

In 2009 he was arrested on charges of attempted heavy blackmail. He was accused of asking David Letterman for $ 2 million. As leverage, he used compromising emails and pictures, which proved that Letterman had secret sexual relationships with female employees on his show. Letterman only pretended to be extortionate, but informed the police. After Halderman's arrest, Letterman publicized the blackmail on his show and also admitted the sexual relations.
