Joseph "Joe" Kennedy Darley (* 24. May 1979 in La Mesa , California ; † 23. November 2007 in Brandon , Florida ) was an American baseball - pitcher in the Major League . He played for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays , Colorado Rockies (baseball) , Oakland Athletics , Arizona Diamondbacks and Toronto Blue Jays from 2001 to 2007. His nickname was "The Patriarch".

His life

Joseph Kennedy was born in La Mesa , California. He graduated from high school in El Cajon , California and played baseball, basketball , volleyball, and football. After high school, he attended Grossmont Junior College. Then he came to the major league.

Career

Kennedy made his major league debut on June 6, 2001 with the Devil Rays. After a serious arm injury in 2003, he moved to the Colorado Rockies.

From 2001 to 2004, Kennedy had a 27-38 record with a total of 381 strikeouts and a 4.63 ERA in 610.1 pitched innings.

In 2005 he was sold to the Oakland Athletics together with pitcher Jay Witasick. There he soon had to replace the injured Rich Harden as a starter. Kennedy finished the year with a 4-5 record and a 4.70 ERA in the American League.

After suffering an injury to his shoulder and biceps in 2006, he only managed an ERA above 11am in spring training. Even so, he was nominated by Athletics as the fifth starter for the 2007 season. He then signed a minor league contract with the Toronto Blue Jays. Five days later he was drafted into the major league. He pitched in nine games for the Blue Jays.

At the time of his death, Joe Kennedy was with his family in Florida. There he was supposed to be the best man at a friend's wedding. During the night he woke up and collapsed in his in-laws' house. He was taken to Brandon Hospital in Brandon, where only his death could be determined. The exact cause of death has not yet been disclosed. Kennedy agent, Damon Lapa, noted that there was speculation surrounding a heart attack or aneurysm in the brain.

Joe Kennedy leaves behind his pregnant wife Jami and his one-year-old son.
