Joel Godard

Joel Godard (born March 31, 1938 in Milledgeville , Baldwin County , Georgia ) was the announcer of the American television program Late Night with Conan O'Brien until 2009 . He often took part in the showsketches, in which he portrayed a fictional version of himself.

Godard attended Emory University and graduated with a degree in chemistry . He was admitted to the associated medical school, but he decided to get into show business instead . Since 1999, Godard has also served as the announcer for NBC's annual television program for Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City .

In Late Night with Conan O'Brien , he was often portrayed in skits as an unbridled homosexual person with a distinct preference for young Asian men. His character often called for "sweet redemption through death " and illustrated how miserable his life was ("My life is a septic tank filled to overflowing").

In his sketches he commits regularly suicide , usually by hanging .

Godard has been married since 1983 and has one child.
