Hendrikus Johannes Witteveen (born June 12, 1921 in Zeist ; † April 23, 2019 in Wassenaar ) was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the Netherlands , Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund and first Chairman of the Group of Thirty .

Witteveen was a member of the VVD ( Volkspartij voor Vrijheid en Democratie ). From July 24, 1963 to April 14, 1965, Witteveen was Minister of Finance of the Netherlands. From April 5, 1967 to July 6, 1971 he was again Minister of Finance and Deputy Prime Minister of the Netherlands. From September 1, 1973 to June 16, 1978 he was Managing Director of the IMF.

The honorary professor in Economics was a member of the Advisory Board of the European Management Institute.

Witteveen had a son, the politician Willem Witteveen . He died on July 17, 2014 when Malaysia Airlines flight 17 was shot down .
