Per Jacobsson

Per Jacobsson (born February 5, 1894 at Tanum , † May 5, 1963 in London ) was a Swedish manager . From November 21, 1956 until his death he was Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund .

Per Jacobsson studied law and economics at Uppsala University and then worked as a lecturer in economics at the Stockholm Forestry School . Between 1920 and 1928 he was Sweden's delegate to the Economic and Financial Department of the League of Nations Secretariat in Geneva . Subsequently Jacobsson was a member of the Swedish Economic Defense Council between 1929 and 1931 . He also worked briefly for Kreuger and Troll in Stockholm.

In 1931, Per Jacobsson became head of the monetary and economic department of the newly established Bank for International Settlements . He was also a member of the Irish Banking Commission , whose report led to the creation of the Central Bank of Ireland . In 1952 he played a key role in setting up the Basel Center for Economic and Financial Analysis .

Per Jacobsson was appointed Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund on November 21, 1956 and held this position until his death on May 5, 1963. In 1957 he was elected a member of the American Philosophical Society .

With the support of Per Jacobsson's family, the Per Jacobsson Foundation was established in 1963 . Its aim is to promote the discussion of international currency problems as well as basic research in this subject area.
