Johann August Vullers

Johann August Vullers (born October 23, 1803 in Bonn , † January 21, 1880 in Bonn) was a German orientalist .

Life

Vullers studied theology and oriental languages at the University of Bonn and later continued his language studies at the Sorbonne (until 1830). He then finished his studies at the University of Berlin . 1831 Vullers was at the University of Bonn habilitation and worked thereafter there as a lecturer . In 1833 he accepted a position as professor for oriental languages ​​at the University of Giessen . Vullers worked there until his retirement .

Vullers devoted his research mainly to the grammatical and lexical adaptations of the New Persian language . His etymological lexicon was awarded a prize by the Institut de France and the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres in Paris .

As an editor and translator, Vullers also made a great contribution to the works of Firdausi , Mir Hwand and Zarathustra .
