Johann Baptist Berdellé
Johann Baptist Berdellé (born May 15, 1813 in Mainz , † July 1876 in Munich ) was a German history and portrait painter .
Life
Berdellé began studying history painting at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in 1830, and from 1837–1839 he continued his studies at the Royal Prussian Art Academy in Düsseldorf , where he was a student of Carl Ferdinand's son . In 1840 he took part in the great Munich art exhibition. Between 1841 and 1844 he was in Paris as a student of Paul Delaroche and Charles Gleyre . In 1850 he founded a private painting and drawing school in Munich. Between 1852 and 1855 he stayed in Russia, where, through the mediation of the Imperial Russian Colonel Andreas Barischnikoff , he was commissioned to paint the new Greek Orthodox Church in Kazan .
