Johann Baptist Hoferer (born March 20, 1860 in Großprüfening ; † May 5, 1936 in Pettendorf ) was a craftsman , landowner and local politician from the Center Party .

Life

Hoferer was born in 1860 as the son of master blacksmith and mayor Michael Hoferer (1820-1894) and his second wife Franziska Riederer (1831-1875). His brother was the merchant and banker Josef Hoferer (1866–1941). His great-grandfather Joseph Hoferer had been working as a blacksmith and cart smith in Großprüfening since 1771/1772. His great-grandfather on his mother's side, Jacob Riederer, was the last court master of the Benedictine Abbey ofprüfunging .

After attending the village school in Checking, he was a pupil at the Royal District Trade School in Regensburg until 1875/1876 . He then studied agriculture for a time and began an apprenticeship as a farrier and wagon blacksmith in his father's workshop. Even as a journeyman, he received awards for his technical skills. Later he passed the master craftsman examination in Regensburg.

In 1887 he married Anna Hofherr (1865–1930), the daughter of a master blacksmith, and took over the farm of the in-laws in Pettendorf. The property there could be expanded significantly through clever investments. He also became a partner in the J. Hoferer banking and trading company in Furth im Wald . From 1895 he was a local councilor and later also a district councilor .

Hoferer was also known as a benefactor of his home community and the community of Pettendorf. The construction of several workers' houses, a poor house and the Pettendorfer memorial for the fallen of the First World War go back to him. In memory of his son Josef, who died near Verdun in 1916 , he had an impressive memorial installed on the church wall of the parish church of St. Margareta in Pettendorf. He advocated agricultural innovations such as the purchase of large threshing and harvesting machines, which enabled farmers in agriculture to act faster, more economically and more effortlessly. He was also a member of several clubs and the first master rifleman of the Pettendorf hunting club founded in 1897.

He died of hardening of the arteries in Pettendorf on May 5, 1936 and was buried there in the cemetery with great sympathy. The honorary citizen of the community of Pettendorf Heinrich Prößl (1929-2010) was his grandson.
