Johann Beckenbach

Johann Beckenbach (born October 4, 1897 in Framersheim ; † March 28, 1992 in Mainz ) was a German entrepreneur , winemaker and politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

Beckenbach was born the son of a Wagner . After attending school, he completed a Wagner apprenticeship in his parents' company, which he completed with a journeyman's examination. During the First World War he served as a soldier and was wounded three times. The experiences of the war led him to join the SPD in 1919 . From 1921 he was chairman of the SPD local association Framersheim. After he had passed the master craftsman examination , he took over the management of his father's company and specialized in body construction. In addition to the SPD, he was also involved in the Reichsbanner Schwarz-Rot-Gold . Disappointed with the SPD, he switched to the Socialist Workers' Party of Germany in November 1931 .

After the seizure of power by the National Socialists Beck Bach was arrested and 1933 from March 10 to May 1 in Osthofen concentration camp internment. He was then banned from continuing his business, which is why he worked as a winemaker and wine merchant from then on. He served as a soldier from 1939 in World War II . In 1943 he was arrested again, charged with alleged high treason and the decomposition of the military, and sentenced by the Higher Regional Court of Kassel to five years in prison and three years in loss of honor . The following period he spent in the Rollwald prison camp , from which he managed to escape in 1945. The US occupation forces appointed him Mayor of Framersheim. He stayed in office until 1946. Beckenbach then co-founded the SPD von Framersheim and was a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state executive committee of the Social Democrats until 1966.

From 1946 he was a member of the district council and the district committee Alzey. In 1953 he became first district deputy.

Beckenbach was a member of the Advisory State Assembly of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate in 1946/47 . He was a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament from 1947 to 1971. From 1959 to 1963 he was chairman of the wine and wine industry committee. In 1949 he was elected by the state parliament to the first federal assembly and in 1964 to the fourth federal assembly. Since 1967 he acted as the age president of the state parliament. In 1971 he resigned from active politics.
