Johann Beckmann (painter)
Johann Beckmann , often Hans Beckmann , (born March 21, 1809 in Hamburg , † December 4, 1882 there ) was a German landscape painter .
Johann Beckmann received his first painting lessons from Christian Friedrich Belitz in Hamburg. He then studied at the Braunschweig Polytechnic and, from August 24, 1832, at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich . In Munich he copied Dutch landscapes as a training course.
After graduating, he worked as a landscape painter in Munich. He painted views of Upper Bavarian and Austrian lakes and rivers, from the neighborhood of Hamburg and Bremen, as well as Scottish mountain landscapes.
