Johann Carl Hocheder

Johann Carl Hocheder (* 2. December 1800 in Zell am Ziller , † 15. March 1864 in Vienna ) was an Austrian in South America active Montanist and mineralogist .

Hocheder worked as a gold panner in Tyrol until 1820 , then he studied at the Schemnitz Mountain and Forestry College . He then worked in Böckstein , Brixlegg , Sterzing and Fügen . Between 1830 and 1840, Hocheder worked in a gold mine in Minas Gerais in Brazil . There he put together an extensive collection of rock samples and minerals, some of which can now be viewed in the Natural History Museum Vienna . After his return he became an honorary mining authority assessor.
