Johann Carl Tecklenborg
Johann Carl Tecklenborg (born July 15, 1820 in Bremen , † October 14, 1873 in Bremerhaven ) was a German shipbuilder and shipyard owner.
Life
Tecklenborg was one of ten children of the sailmaker and ship owner Franz Tecklenborg (1780-1821) and the younger brother of Franz Tecklenborg . He did an apprenticeship as a shipbuilder and then worked in America for a few years. On July 14, 1844, he married Sophie Ehlers (1827-1910) in Baltimore .
When he returned to Bremen, he joined the company of his brother Franz, who had taken over his father's business in 1830, as a ship's carpenter . In 1841 Jan Simon Abegg built a shipyard in Bremerhaven next to the Rickmers shipyard built there with financial help from the Tecklenborgs . In 1843 the company was taken over by Franz. Johann Carl was accepted as a citizen in Bremerhaven in December 1844 and took over Abegg's lease in January 1845. Since then, the shipyard has operated under the name Johann C. Tecklenborg .
Tecklenborg built bigger and bigger ships over time. He decided to build a dry dock on the Geeste in Geestemünde . Today the Tecklenborg house on Claussenstrasse is located at this place. Around 1860 the well-used shipyard employed around 100 ship carpenters and also built fishing trawlers. Shortly before his death in 1872, Eduard Tecklenborg - son of the shipyard founder Franz Tecklenborg - received procuration together with Georg Wilhelm Claussen ; Clausen led the shipyard as technical director after his death. In 1897 the shipyard became a public limited company .
A daughter of Johann Carl Tecklenborg was Johanna Tecklenborg (also: Johanne-Catharina Tecklenborg) (1851-1933), a landscape painter who last lived in Munich.
Johann Carl Tecklenborg was buried in the Lehe II cemetery in Bremerhaven.
