Johann Carolus von Gronsfeld-Nevelstein

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Carolus von Gronsfeld-Nevelstein (* 1715 in Reifferscheid ; † May 15, 1765 in Bonn , buried on May 17, 1765 in Nörvenich ) was a noble gentleman from Kellersberg , today's district of Alsdorf in the Aachen city region .

A grave slab was discovered in front of the Marien Altar in the parish church of St. Medardus in Nörvenich during the renovation in 1977 . The inscription , which can hardly be deciphered, reads:

NEVEL (Stein herr in Kellers) in brackets = added
BERG
BONNa (= Bonn)
aPPOP (lexia) (= at stroke)

There is the following entry in the church book of 1765 (translated into today's language):

On May 17th, the generous and famous Mr. Carolus Anglinus von Gronsfeld Nievelstein, Lord in Kellersberg, Duchy of Jülich, parish Broich, subordinate rule in Wilhelmstein, was buried here in the middle of the church, and on May 15th in Bonn under the hands of doctors Stroke died. His body was to be transferred from Bonn to the grave of his ancestors in Broich; because of the intense heat it had to be handed over to the earth here because it could not be transferred.

Johann married Anna Bernardina von Hagen zur Motten. The couple had two children. They lived at the ancestral home of the noble family , namely Kellersberg Castle .

Nörvenich was chosen as the burial place because the Gronsfeld-Kellersberg and Beissel von Gymnich families (that was Johann's grandmother) were listed in Pastor Föller's brotherhood book . The aristocratic family also owned land in Binsfeld . The burial place was certainly chosen because of the progressive decomposition , because there were no cooling possibilities at that time.
