Johann Chaloupek

Johann Chaloupek (born August 21, 1901 in Fichtau near Neubistritz , Bohemia , † April 19, 1988 in Vienna ) was an Austrian member of the cooperative .

Life

Johann Chaloupek attended the Teplitz elementary and community school from 1909 before he and his family had to move to Gmünd in Lower Austria in July 1913 because of the increasing Czech nationalist tendencies in Bohemia . In December 1915 he moved again, this time to Vienna, where he received an apprenticeship in a delicatessen store in the middle of the First World War .

In 1920 he switched to the consumer cooperative (at that time central administration Vienna Westbahnhof) and was also politically active in the social democratic party ( SPÖ ). In the course of the interwar period, he relocated his center of life back to the Waldviertel and was instrumental in founding gymnastics clubs and children's and youth organizations. It was during this time that he was elected chairman of the trade union for trade employees, as well as his appointment of the Gmünd regional health insurance fund to the board of directors.

Between 1934 and 1945 the Austrian consumer cooperatives were "brought into line " and converted into supply rings of the German Labor Front during the war , but Chaloupek was spared military service due to his organizational work to ensure the supply of the population. After the Second World War , Johann Chaloupek, as authorized signatory, played a key role in the rebuilding of the consumer cooperative in Vienna and the surrounding area . 1955, at the instigation of the IBM - punch card system introduced in use, which offered enormous economic benefits at the time and contributed an essential step for the rapid growth of the consumer cooperatives.

Johann Chaloupek was a brother of Ferdinand Chaloupek and an uncle of Günther Chaloupek .
