Johann Christian Mehlhorn

Johann Christian Mehlhorn (also: Melhorn ; * December 12, 1698 in Chemnitz ; † February 14, 1760 in Delitzsch ) was a German Protestant theologian.

Life

Mehlhorn attended high school in Chemnitz and then studied from April 10, 1717 at the University of Wittenberg . After he had acquired the academic degree of a master's degree in Wittenberg on April 30, 1721, he continued his studies at the University of Leipzig . In 1724 he went to Gelenau / Erzgeb as a substitute for the pastor . and became his successor the following year. In 1743 he was appointed as superintendent in Weida and in 1751 as superintendent, pastor first teacher and director of schools in Delitzsch, where he died on.

In 1741 he published the Gelenau hymn book, which was distinguished for its time by the accuracy of the texts and all sorts of useful hymnological ingredients and was published again in Weida in 1744. He also composed songs himself, which can be found in the aforementioned and Delitzsch hymnbooks.
