Johann Christoph Kohlhans
Johann Christoph Kohlhans (born July 16, 1604 in Neustadt near Coburg , † September 9, 1677 in Coburg ) was a German teacher , mathematician and Protestant hymn poet .
Life
Johann Christoph Kohlhans was born on July 16, 1604 in Neustadt, then called Neustadt an der Haide. Having trained at a grammar school in Coburg , he moved to the University of Jena in 1620 and received his master's degree in 1627 . In 1633 he was employed as a mathematics teacher ("professor") at the Casimirianum Coburg , and later he also taught the Hebrew language . But he had to leave the city in 1642 because of the Thirty Years' War and became a teacher at the grammar school in Göttingen . There he was responsible for the Greek language . He returned to Coburg in 1653 as headmaster and associate professor. There he died on September 9, 1677 at the age of 73.
He composed the farewell song Oh, when will I come to the face of God in whom he expressed the desire to be received in heaven. The song has been incorporated into community hymn books.
