Johann Christoph Layritz (* February 1655 in Hof ; † May 30, 1731 in Wunsiedel ) was rector of the Hof high school , professor in Bayreuth and superintendent in Wunsiedel.

Johann Christoph Layritz was the son of Johann Layritz, administrator in Marktleuthen, and Anna Maria, daughter of the Cheb exile Christoph Bauer, who fled during the Thirty Years' War and was accepted into Hof as a citizen and watchmaker . He had a brother named Johann Georg . His marriage resulted in six children, including Johann Christoph as Privy Councilor (* 1686) and Johann Georg as Guardianship Council († 1796) in Bayreuth to regional importance. Paul Eugenius became a theologian and teacher in Neustadt an der Aisch and later a bishop of the Moravian Brethren .

Johann Christoph attended high schools in Hof and Bayreuth. He studied in Jena and Weimar. In 1681 he took over the office of vice-rector in Hof and finally succeeded Christoph Friedrich Pertsch as rector in 1686. In 1689 he was appointed professor in Bayreuth, but in 1690 he took over the lucrative pastoral office in Selb . Johann Christoph Weiß succeeded him as Hofer's rector. In 1704 he became superintendent in Wunsiedel and held this office until his death.

The historian Friedrich Ebert pays tribute to Layritz's work from over 52 publications. With regard to the history of the city of Hof, he closely follows Enoch Widmann , but provides his own remarks for the period around 1690, to which there are no equivalent. Layritz consciously used artfully designed sentences with selected expressions in his Latin texts, which Ebert's translation tried to take into account. The structure of a city chronicle designed by Layritz, which he filled in with individual essays, was further edited by his successor Johann Christoph Weiß , but remained unfinished in the further elaboration.
