Johann Christoph Richter (musician)

Johann Christoph Richter (born July 15, 1700 in Dresden ; † February 19, 1785 ibid) was a German composer , pantaleon player and organist .

Live and act

Johann Christoph Richter was mentioned at the Dresden Kreuzschule in 1714 , but soon afterwards came to the Dresden court orchestra and from there was sent to Italy for training in 1716. From 1722 he studied in Leipzig. In 1726 he had to learn to play the pantaleon at Pantaleon Hebenstreit by order of the king . From 1734 he represented the sick lifting dispute as a Pantaleon teacher, while in 1727 he was appointed Protestant court organist. From 1751 to 1775 he was court choirmaster and from 1760 he received the title of Kapellmeister.

Richter's pupils include Christian Gottlieb Dachselt , long-time organist at the Dresden Frauenkirche.

In addition to some cantatas, Richter wrote two works for the stage and some instrumental works as well as works for organ and harpsichord.
