Johann Christoph Weingärtner

Johann Christoph Weingärtner (born October 3, 1771 in Erfurt ; † February 19, 1833 there ) was a German Lutheran clergyman , theologian and mathematician .

Life

Weingärtner came from a family of preachers and teachers in Erfurt. He first attended the local city school in St. Michael and then the Erfurt Ratsgymnasium . In 1787 he was enrolled at the University of Erfurt . In addition to philosophy and theology, he also studied mathematics. On September 29, 1789 he was a candidate for ministerial office. However, he initially went to the University of Jena , where he completed his theological studies. In 1791 he returned to Erfurt and entered the ministry. In 1794 he became vice-principal at the Erfurt Predigerschule, in 1796 a member of the Mathematical-Physical Society and in 1801 Dr. phil. PhD .

Weingartner was in 1801 to pastor the church Schwerborn selected, switched as a minister in 1805 after Egstedt and returned in 1812 as a deacon at the Kaufmannskirche back to Erfurt. If he was already an associate professor of philosophy, he became a full professor of theology at the University of Erfurt. He also became a teacher at the Trommsdorff Institute. Various other offices were assigned to him, including that of an examination commissioner for the teachers' examinations. In 1815 he became pastor of the merchant community, and in 1820, in addition to his university teaching position, he was also senior teacher of mathematics at the grammar school. In addition, he became the superintendent of all city schools.

Weingärtner was accepted as a member of the Academy of Non-Profit Science in Erfurt .

Honors

The plant genus Weingaertneria Bernh is named after him . from the sweet grass family (Poaceae).
