Johann Christoph von Bemmel

Johann Christoph von Bemmel (born March 1, 1717 (baptism date) in Nuremberg , † July 1, 1788 in Bamberg ) was a German landscape painter .

Johann Christoph, the second son of Peter von Bemmels , did an apprenticeship with his father, settled in Bamberg, converted there to the Catholic faith and married Susanna Maria Köhler. In this marriage, Karl Sebastian was born in 1743 and Simon Joseph in 1747. With his second wife Catharina Maria Brückner the painter had the son Johann Caspar.

Meusel certifies Johann Christoph von Bemmel in Füssli's General Artist Lexicon a "quick and light brush".

Nagler closes his Lexicon entry with: “Although his paintings were similar to nature, they were extremely hard, dry, lean and in art value much lower than those of his father. He also worked more to maintain his family than for art. "
