Johann Conrad Oertli

Johann Conrad Oertli (* 5. December 1736 in depths ; † 10. July 1809 ibid ; heimatberechtigt in Teufen) one was Swiss veterinarian , member of the Small Council , Landammann and Diet envoy from the canton of Appenzell Outer Rhodes .

Life

Johann Conrad Oertli was a son of Matthias Oertli, miller and state governor, and Anna Baumgartner. In 1773, he married Barbara Oertli, daughter of Ulrich Oertli, community Captain . He was one of the first full-time veterinarians in Eastern Switzerland . In 1803 he was a member of a cantonal medical council that was consulted about cattle diseases . From 1784 to 1788 he was councilor in Teufen. From 1788 to 1794 he served as a state ensign and from 1794 to 1795 as governor. From 1797 to 1798 he was Landammann and delegate of the Diet. In 1797 he presided over the Land Book Revision Commission . As a specialist in cattle disease control, Oertli wrote two anonymously published publications and was appointed as an expert abroad on various occasions. In 1794 and 1795 he traveled to Ulm . There he successfully requested grain for the national supply. As a supporter of the old order, he fled with the rest of the state government from the French to Vorarlberg in 1798 . In 1799 he was governor of the interim government .
