Johann Daniel Meier

Johann (John) Daniel Meier (born May 5, 1804 in New York City , † October 3, 1871 in Bremen ) was a lawyer , Bremen senator and Bremen mayor .

biography

Meier was the son of the businessman Hermann Henrich Meier (1779–1821) and the elderly daughter Lucie geb. Warneken. He was the grandson of Mayor Diederich Meier (1748–1802) and nephew of Senator and Mayor Diederich Meier (1787–1857). His second marriage was to Margarethe Rommel, daughter of a president of the higher court in Kassel .

After graduating from high school, he studied law at the University of Göttingen and Heidelberg University from 1822 ; he received his doctorate in law from the University of Göttingen in 1825/26 . After the examination in Lübeck, he worked as a lawyer in Bremen .

In 1844 he became a senator in Bremen . From 1862 to 1865 and again from 1868 to 1871 he was mayor of Bremen and left his office on his death. He was President of the Senate in 1863, 1865, 1868 and 1870. In 1869 he had the Meier house built for himself in Horn , Horner Heerstraße 7 .
