Johann Diederich Deimann

Johann Diederich Deimann (born April 9, 1731 in Hage , East Frisia ; † April 9, 1783 in Amsterdam ; also Johannes Dieterich , Johann Diedrich , Joannes Dietericus , also incorrectly Johann Friedrich ) was a Dutch Lutheran clergyman and preacher. He is considered the founder of a more liberal theology of the 18th century.

Life

Deiman grew up in Hage and went to school in Norden (East Friesland) . He studied theology at the University of Halle under Siegmund Jakob Baumgarten . He published his theological dissertation in 1753 under the title de anypostasia et enypostasia humanae Christi naturae (printer Johann Friedrich Grunert).

In 1758, accepted a position as a preacher in the Zierikzee congregation . His career took him via Zwolle and Utrecht to Amsterdam, where on February 11, 1779 he took over the largest Dutch municipality.

His brother Johan Rudolph Deiman was a well-known doctor and chemist.
