Johann Edmund Freiherr Gedult von Jungsfeld (born September 2, 1652 in Mainz , † July 31, 1727 ibid) was a German Catholic clergyman and auxiliary bishop in Mainz .

Life

Johann Edmund Gedult von Jungsfeld came from the noble family of the Gedult von Jungsfeld . His father Johann Conrad Gedult von Jungsfeld (1625–1690) was postmaster in Mainz from 1649 . He attended grammar school in Mainz and began his studies at the University of Mainz , which he completed with a Magister Artium . After receiving the minor orders in 1671 he went to the Collegium Germanicum in Rome . After further studies he was ordained a subdeacon and deacon in Rome in 1674 . In April 1675 he left Rome, was ordained a priest in Mainz and on May 4, 1675 became provost of St. Peter and dean at the Holy Cross monastery in Mainz. In 1678 he resigned as provost of St. Peter, but remained canon there . He became Domcellar at the Liebfrauenstift . In 1682 he became a Scholasticus at St. Peter. In 1683 he was canon at the Liebfrauenstift and in 1693 dean of the foundation.

On February 12, 1703 he was appointed titular bishop of Mallus and auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Mainz under Archbishop Lothar Franz von Schönborn and consecrated bishop on July 8, 1703 by him.

According to the records in Schematismus Genealogicus , the Jungendfeld archive and an extract from the Liber Consecrationum, Ordinationum caeterumque actuum pontificalium from 1703 to 1727, Auxiliary Bishop Gedult donated a total of 1,313 priestly ordinations, 1,330 diaconal ordinations and 1,414 subdiaconal ordinations. He consecrated the Speyer bishops Heinrich Hartard von Rollingen and Damian Hugo von Schönborn as well as the Mainz auxiliary bishop Johann Joachim Hahn (1718–1725) and the first Fulda auxiliary bishop Stephan von Cloth OSB. He also designated Abbots Konrad Eiff and Anton Antoni von Arnsburg , Peter Schultheiß von Seligenstadt , Joseph Haberkorn von Amorbach and Jakob Münch von Ilbenstadt. He consecrated or assigned 30 churches, 54 altars and many bells and confirmed 85,353 believers.

After his death he was buried in the choir of the Liebfrauenkirche in Mainz.

1719/20 he had the Jungenfeldsche house in Finthen built
