Johann Erhard Prieger

Johann Erhard Peter Prieger (born September 17, 1792 in Wiesbaden ; † June 4, 1863 in Kreuznach ) was a German doctor .

He became known through the founding of the first brine bath in Bad Kreuznach and a few years later was appointed fountain and bath doctor as well as the royal Prussian medical council.

Life

He was born on September 17, 1792 as the son of Benjamin Gottlieb Prieger and Kornelia Katharina Pauli in Wiesbaden.

After his childhood he began his medical studies in 1811 in Frankfurt am Main , which he on March 6, 1816 the promotion to Doctor of Medicine graduated. In the following months he worked as a doctor in his native Wiesbaden, until he settled in Bad Kreuznach in March 1817. There he built the first bathing room in the same year after he had recognized the healing power of the brine springs and the medical benefits in them.

On October 31, 1817 he married Maria Philippine Acva (born October 25, 1796 in Kreuznach; † October 27, 1850 ibid), with whom he had eight children, three of which were not older than ten years.

In 1820 he was appointed district doctor and in 1834 court counselor. In the same year he founded Solbäder AG, in which he became a member of the committee two years later and in 1838 a member of the administrative committee. In 1837 he was appointed fountain and bath doctor.

In 1842 Prieger was appointed royal Prussian medical council and from 1837 to 1862 he was Kreuznach's city ​​councilor . There he died a year later on June 8, 1863 at the age of 70.
