Life

Johann Ernst Plamann began his school career in the royal secondary school and then attended the Joachimsthal'sche Gymnasium. In 1790 he was able to study theology in Halle , which he did until 1793. In 1797 he is back in Berlin and teaches at private schools. At the suggestion of the poet Tiedge , he read Pestalozzi ’s writings and decided to visit him in Burgdorf , Switzerland. On May 8, 1803, he traveled to Pestalozzi with borrowed money, who received him kindly. He was enthusiastic about Pestalozzi's methodology and immediately after his return at the end of 1803 he applied for a license, which he received. It was not until 1805 that he could open the school.

In 1812 the school was rededicated as an educational institution. Many well-known personalities worked as teachers here: Friedrich Friesen , Friedrich Ludwig Jahn , Wilhelm Harnisch , Karl August Gottlieb Dreist , Ernst Wilhelm Bernhard Eiselen , Karl Friedrich Klöden , Friedrich Froebel , Ernst Ferdinand August (1795-1870) and others.

For his successful work he was awarded the title of professor on May 8, 1818 . From here the descent began, the Carlsbad resolutions created increasing pressure, and the plan man, plagued by existential fears for the institution, was overwhelmed, good educators went or were even thrown into prison (Jahn). Planmann's health also suffered.

So in 1827 he finally had to close his institution. He took numerous cures in order to recover and died on September 3, 1834. He was buried in the Dreifaltigkeitskirchhof II . The grave has not been preserved.

Planmann was married. The marriage remained childless.
