Ianuarius
Januarius is the Roman forerunner of January . It was initially the eleventh month of the year in office of the Roman calendar and originally had 29 days. It was named after Janus , the Roman god of the beginning and the end, the entrances and exits, the doors and the gates. The month name belongs to the same family of words as ianua , the Latin word for door.
